Lorena Herrera Rashid | Under the volcano

01.07.17 - 29.07.17

He was safe here; this was the place he loved - sanctuary,

the paradise of his despair.
Malcolm Lowry, Under the Volcano

“Under the Volcano“ is the first solo show of Lorena Herrera Rashid in Mexico City. The title of the exhibition is based on the homonym novel written in 1947 by Malcolm Lowry: a hallucinating story that takes place in Cuernavaca and whose characters go through a delirious panorama between paradise and hell. The works in the show are the latest production of Herrera Rashid, who after a long turn around the world and a multifaceted career, returned to Mexico to settle in a dream studio in Itzamatitlán, Morelos. Thus, through sculptures and installations made from objets-trouvé, she seeks to reconstitute her surroundings and make a personal reflection of her reencounter with Mexico using a sharp humor, disrupting elements of daily life to denounce violence, consumer society and media manipulation in our country.
